it’s been TOO long since I’ve broken out my Bellas to make a card. They are super fun stamps & are usually a big hit when I sell or give my cards out.
I used some Old Olive Ribbon here, with some PTI cardstock & button. I stamped the background with Polka Dots Backgrounds II from PTI. Sentiment is from a Hero Arts stamp set. I think this would make a great card for a female friend, teacher, or co-worker…!
I am totally that “babysitter”. The one that pretty much lets the rugrats do whatever they please (isn’t that what a babysitter is for???) So this past summer, after a night full of cheeseburgers & ice cream, I got the kids in their PJ’s and totally caved to their request of playing with my iPhone. (I have the SpongeBob app….which apparently is great for hours of entertainment!). The backstory is that “Mom” has an iPhone - but since she really uses it for work - she can’t have the kids on it all the time. So the fact that I let them play with mine is well…pretty neat. So this pic is one I snapped while they were both contending for Spongebob. LOVE it. They are just so darn cute.
Paper & embellishments are from We R Memory Keepers Hippity Hoppity Collection. (SO CUTE). I cut the “iPhone” letters out with the Sesame Street Cricut Cartridge. The other letters were cut using a font on my computer & the SCAL software (which I’m totally getting into). The journaling tag is from Kristina’s awesome collection of Digital Cut files. I used my new punch from SU for the decorative edge on that photo mat. It’s a really pretty punch. Ribbon is from PTI.
Looking forward to some “warmer” weather this weekend (50’s maybe? I’ll take it!!)
Hi everyone - I hope I’ve been fulfilling most of your requests for 2010 on the blog! I’m trying to respond to what people asked most for…and that was: VIDEOS! (I have some other things in the works too, so keep checking back. I’m also hoping to re-vamp the blog a bit & have it looking better real soon.)
As promised, here’s a super quick video showing you how to tie a bow with ribbon that has a pattern on it. I’ve always found it tricky to use patterened ribbon because some parts of the bow may or may not have pattern showing, etc.
Hope you enjoy - let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Ever since I got that sewing machine for Christmas, I’ve been vowing to get more creative on my cards. I want to use more materials like canvas, felt, etc. So I grabbed some sticky back canvas at a LSS a few weeks ago. I also picked up some the Claudine Hellmuth studio paint to try out. It was pretty fun (& messy) to paint on the sticky back canvas. I really do love vibrant color though. Once it was dry, I stamped using some Archiver’s black ink & a Hero Arts stamp. I embellished it a bit with some liquid pearls.
That green & Kraft cardstock is from PTI - the yellow is the current In-Color from Stampin Up. I did a bit of sewing on the canvas to complete the look. Also, I used the studio paint to stamp a background on the card. I was impressed with how well that paint works with stamping.
Overall it was fun - but I’m not sure this is something I could do very often - as I seem to get more paint on me & my supplies than anything else! It’s fun to try for something different - but for the most part I will stick to my inks & avoid painting all over myself
I don’t usually do too much for Easter, but when I saw this collection by We R Memory Keepers I couldn’t resist! LOVE the colors. They are so bright & cheery - and remind me that Spring is very SOON - which I’m looking forward to…and how cute is that Bunny?
A closeup of those cute eggs. They are so fun & colorful! I just filmed a video with a tip on tying bows with ribbon that has a pattern on it. Stayed tuned for that soon. You can see what I mean by the bow - it has polka dots on both sides…
OK as promised, here is a video tutorial on making these skinny notepad holders. One thing to note: I bought my notepads at Walmart & had them cut at Staples. These are not the pads I bought, but they are something similar. I had the people at Staples cut the lines off the side, and then cut the pad in half for me. It gave me these skinny pads to use:
In the video, I show you how to cover the top of those pads to hide the label. The paper that I use to cover these measures 8.5″ x 5″. I scored at 2 3/8″ and 2 5/8″. Depending upon the size of the notepads you use, these measurements could vary.
EDIT: In the video I show how I add the paper to the pens to make them match. However, my SU Demo has a much better video that fully demonstrates this HERE. So check it out!!
Here’s a photo of the notepads I made in this video - if you want to see the original blog posting, it’s HERE.
Anyway, onto the video. Here it is - thanks for watching & let me know if you have any more questions!
just a quick St. Patrick’s Day card…I saw this paper when I was at my LSS this weekend & thought it was super cute!
I used a punch to make those hearts, and put them together to make a 4-leaf clover - super easy to do & I really like the result. The ribbon is from PTI and the punched border is from Martha Stewart.
I’m almost done editing a video for those skinny notepads, so check back soon - I’ve had quite a few questions on them. Thanks!
First up is my card from the Feb 2010 issue of CARDS magazine - heading up the “cards for Kids” section:
and this card was in the March 2010 issue of CARDS. I believe I’ve shared it before - it’s a great card to use for St. Patty’s Day!
If you don’t currently subscribe to CARDS - or can’t find it in stores (like me - I never seem to find it unless I go to a LSS)….you can subscribe online. It’s WAY cheaper - just $5/month and you get to view/print & see the full issue PLUS back issues. That’s what I do. Yep, I even pay for my online subscription even though they eventually send me the issues I’m in. I’m impatient like that
there’s been quite a bit of embossed resist techniques going on lately out there. It inspired me to make this card using some Hero Stamps & white embossing powder. I used some Tim Holtz Distress Inks & blending tool to layer color onto this card.
The ribbon is Old Olive from Stampin Up! - they have such great ribbon - it ties so nicely into bows. Especially this 5/8″ Grosgrain:
The base layer of this card is Kraft, and the stamped image is mounted on some Chocolate Chip CS.
