Kristina's Color Challenge #10

Saturday, May 31, 2008

another color challenge from Kristina's blog. I love these. I found this one to be tougher than the last one she had, but I really enjoyed it! I also challenged myself not to use any stamps on these cards...sometimes they go a lot quicker that way.

Sounds like we are getting a few thunderstorms here in MA this morning, so I'm going to shutup and just upload these cards before we lose Internet!

Have a great weekend everyone...

thought I should note that I did have a bit of inspiration for the 2nd card above. It's not exactly the same, but I also want to give credit where it's due! Kristina's card that inspired me can be found here. The "happy day" card above was my take on it.

tis the season...

Wednesday, May 28, 2008
the season of weddings is starting! My older brother is getting married in 3 WEEKS. How time flies. Pete and I got married this past September, so our family has been full of wedding related stuff this past year. I also have a few friends tying the knot this summer, so I figured I would get a jump start on my stash of wedding cards.

I used one of my Stampin Up! Simply Scrappin' kits for these cards. ("Tie the Knot") I know these kids are meant for scrapbooking, but can I tell you how easy they make it for card making? I can easily throw cards together using this kit, and I don't even need to bust my stamps out! If you'd like to see each of these cards up close, please visit my Project Gallery.

I've also been working a lot on some items for my upcoming craft fair. If any of you readers live in the Boston area, this will be my very first craft show, in Westborough MA on Saturday June 14th. It would be great to see you there! :)

"Tie the Knot" Cards:
Cardstock: SU! Simply Scrappin' Kit - Tie the Knot, Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery
Ribbon: American Crafts, SU! 5/8" Chocolate Chip Ribbon

Tutorial: Altered Binder Clip

Monday, May 19, 2008
I had a few more requests for video tutorials (woo!) so this weekend I tried to make one again. I think this one came out a little better with the camera angle...I'm getting the hang of it!

This week I decided to video me altering a Binder Clip from Staples. I buy the medium binder clips (1 1/4" sized), usually a bunch of them to a package. They are really simple to make, and it's a great way to use up all the small pieces of scrap paper you have lying around. This clip is made to hold a picture of your favorite canine friend!

Hope you Enjoy the video!

CKC...holy cow...

Friday, May 16, 2008

So this year was my first year ever attending the Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Convention. It's going on in Manchester, NH this weekend. I took today off and headed up there by myself, to do some shoppin' and see what it was all about.

All I have to say is....HOLY DOLLAR SPOT!! I scored the following goodies (mostly Heidi Swapp & Bazzil Embellishments) FOR A DOLLAR EACH. I couldn't carry all the stuff I wanted to buy. I ended up buying $42 at the dollar spot, and that's only because I couldn't fit anything else in my arms :) - it was definitely the deal of the day. (click the link above for their website)

There was lots of other great stuff at the show - page & scrapbook kits, and I even scored a few sets of Nestabilities. I couldn't believe they had them there...they had an awesome selection. Nesties are so hard to find these days so I was psyched to find some! I also am proud to say that I resisted the urge to purchased a set of Copics...it was tough, but I did it :)

I am so happy that I've been getting more visitors to my blog lately. I hope you all like it. Stay tuned this coming week for hopefully some more tutorials & cards.

Have a great weekend everyone!

my *first* video tutorial...

I recieved some emails from Blog Readers asking me for more information on how I make my altered clipboards, paperclips and clothespins. I decided that rather than type out a long email response, I would show you!

So here is my very first attempt at creating a Video Tutorial. I'm still getting used to the camera angle, trying to find a better way to position my camera. I used iMovie to edit this film - it's one of my favorite pieces of software. I've used it several times before to make movies & slideshows, so it really didn't take long to whip this one together! I hope you all enjoy it! Please leave me a comment and tell me what else you'd like to see. I think I'm going to do one of the Jumbo Clothespins next!

Thanks for looking :)

doggie treats

Tuesday, May 13, 2008
I've seen these altered paint cans on Splitcoast, and I've tried a few in the past. The one problem I always think of, is what the HECK are people going to put into them? Then I thought, how about some doggie treats? Seems like the perfect container, no? The best part about this is that I actually got to buy some of the fun doggie paper & embellishments that I always see at the scrapbook store, but never get to buy because....I don't have a dog!! ;)

so now the only question is...who do I give this to? hehe. I need to go buy some treats I think, and try selling in the fair or giving away as a gift. It was fun altering the Maya Road Chipboard. I just love all the MR stuff.

This weekend is the CKC scrapbook convention in Manchester, NH. I have taken Friday off from work simply to attend this event! I can't wait. I hear it's HUGE, and has tons of goodies. I was also told to bring a bag, as they don't allow rolling carts or strollers (not that I would have a stroller?). Anyway - it will be great to see all the latest & greatest products, but I'm a bit nervous for what this excursion might do to my wallet! I'm flying solo for the day so that I can meander around and do things at my own pace. I hope to get lots of good stuff. I will be sure to update this with all my new creations when I get back...

"Friends" Mini Album

Monday, May 12, 2008
This weekend I got to spend a decent chunk of time in my craft room, woohoo! I'm trying to gear up for a craft fair I'm going to be in on June 14th. When we were at the Cape a few weeks ago, we stopped by Colorful Creations, a scrapbook store located in Hyannis, MA. I got a few new things and I figured I would use some of them this weekend.

I created this album with an awesome little kit made by Dream Street Papers. Basically it's a square shaped chipboard album, with coordinating papers that match exactly to the shape of the album. All you have to do is punch out the paper and adhere to the pages, neato huh? I whipped together this little album in about a half hour and I think it's pretty cute. There are no photos in it yet but perhaps someone out there somewhere will want it...

"Friends" Mini-Album:
Dream Street Papers: Square Lightweight Chipboard, Birdie Bits Square Die Cuts
QuicKutz "Katie" Alphabet
Black Cardstock
Black Stazon Ink
SU! Tab Punch
Assorted Ribbons, Primas, Brad

*new* Project Gallery Added

Friday, May 9, 2008

Hi everyone! I finally got around to putting together a gallery for all my projects. It's not too elaborate, but gives you an idea of the type of stuff I've been working on :)

Click here to visit the gallery. There is also a link on the side. ------>

One of the newer items in the gallery is the "Baby Album" that I just completed. It's a scrapbook I made for friends of ours, who were looking for a scrapbook for their baby James' first year. It's going to be a Mother's Day gift to the Mom from her husband, which I thought was really thoughtful! I used some photos they provided to me, along with a bunch of blank spots for her to fill in with lots of photos of James. I hope she likes it...click HERE to view the page in the album.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there!

scrapbooking, cats, and bone folders.

so just in case you wanted more footage of my cat, I decided to upload this cute clip of him getting the all star treatment on my scrapbook table. He LOVES getting rubbed by my plastic bonefolder - the tool that I use to score and crease my cardstock. Apparently it feels good on his fur and he keeps comin' back for more! Here is a cute little clip of him, see if you can hear him purrrrring away. Enjoy!

Dino-Mite

Wednesday, May 7, 2008
I made this card for a woman I work with, her little nephew is turning 5 this summer, and he is nuts about Dinosaurs! I have always liked this set from My Favorite Things, but up until now, never had an excuse to get it!

The Dino is colored using my Blender Pen and Stampin Up Markers - just dabbed the marker color onto a storage case and watercolored until I liked the shades. The rest of the card is created with the Stampin Up Simply Scrappin' Kit - Crew Kids Boy. I stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment onto the tab that was an embellishment from the kit. I think the SS kits make cardmaking really easy & quick! Thanks for looking!

"Dino-Mite":
Stamps: MFT Dino-Mite
Paper: SU! Simply Scrappin Kit Crew Kids Boy, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Old Olive, Bliss Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black
Accessories: Old Olive 5/8" Ribbon, Brads, Dimensionals

more fruit!

Here are a few more items I created with the Tart & Tangy SU! set. These are some bookmarks and photo holders that I hope to sell in an upcoming craft fair.

Hmm...trying to take some photos, and what's this? some furry black & white thing sitting next to my stuff! Knocking it over!!

and here he is, in all his glory. Always has to be RIGHT in the middle of everything I'm doing, doesn't he? You should see him on my craft desk when I'm trying to work...he just LOVES to chew my ribbon. Bad kitty. (but oh so cute!)

"Tart & Tangy Bookmarks & Photo Holders":
